Ex-Head of Boston Police Union Patrick Rose Pled Guilty to Molesting 6 Kids
PATRICK ROSE, FORMER HEAD OF BOSTON POLICE UNION, PLED GUILTY TO MOLESTING 6 CHILDREN
Police Unions are the last powerhouses of organized labor in the United States. Their leaders wield extraordinary power, much of which is directed at preventing accountability and prosecution of police officers across the nation. So it’s disturbing to say the least to learn that the ex-head of the Boston police union has pled guilty to molesting 6 kids. His name is Patrick Rose, Sr., and this appears to be a poignant example of how hard it is to get justice involving members of law enforcement, or their representatives. But the now former cop and police union boss will see a minimum of ten years behind bars, with another decade of probation after.

WHY DID IT TAKE 27 YEARS TO PROSECUTE PATRICK ROSE WHEN AUTHORITIES KNEW IN 1995?
Why is this a poignant example of challenging justice? Rose retired from the Boston Police Department in 2018. Yet that was over 2 decades after internal police investigators found that he had “more than likely” abused a 12-year-old. And they did nothing. And not only did Rose stay on the job with a full-term retirement, he became the head of the patrolmen’s union. Somehow, internal affairs was convinced Rose was a predator in 1995, yet claimed not to have any evidence or witnesses to prosecute him. And he stayed on the job, until retirement, 23 more years.

MEN LIKE PATRICK ROSE DON’T PLEAD GUILTY UNLESS EVIDENCE IT OVERWHELMING, WHAT TOOK SO LONG?
But the evidence was clearly obtainable, and clearly that finally happened. Rose pled guilty to 21 counts of child rape and sexual assault, and the abuse of 6 kids over 27 years. Men like Rose, cops like Rose, and ex-union heads like Rose don’t simply “cop” to these accusations unless the evidence is overwhelming. After 3 decades of sexual predation with immunity, it is worth considering Rose made an enemy who lifted the veil of protection he had enjoyed for so long. Clearly, something changed to make this evidence suddenly sanguine -and available- for a court to consider.
